Some files can harm your computer. If the file information looks suspicious or you do not fully trust the source, then do not open the file.
This is of course incredibly inconvenient when dealing with SharePoint document libraries, especially if you store *all* of your documents in such a facility.
A temporary solution is to turn the warning off for certain file types:
- Go to Windows Explorer (not IE)
- Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types
- Choose the file type you want (.doc or .docx usually)
- Choose 'Advanced'
- Uncheck 'Confirm open after download'
- Click OK
As of this moment there is no way to toggle this setting per site, which would be incredibly useful!
